We are getting more and more requests to design and deliver programs for students of nursing and healthcare, and we do what we are asked! We were very pleased to welcome two colleges: Mercer County Community College, New Jersey and Forsyth Tech North Carolina to Ireland for another successful Nursing & Healthcare Program. While the program still delivered the history and culture of beautiful Ireland, we also got a chance to visit St. Angela’s College, home of the National University of Ireland Galway Nursing Program, and we also spend time visiting Sligo University Hospital- a big thanks to Maria Gallo and faculty at St. Angela’s, and Teresa Donnelly and faculty at SUH for hosting our students.
We did many of our usual lectures and field trips- but with a focus on folklore and healthcare, the humanities and healthcare, farming, nutrition, horticultural therapies, – we also addressed social welfare systems, poverty, migration and the language of these systems, civil rights, social justice and gender biases. If it sounds like it was a fantastic, multidisciplinary, thought provoking program- it was! And as usual, some of our field trips included the gorgeous sites of Lough Gill with a trip to Parkes Castle, sunset surfing with thanks to the team at Donegal Adventure Centre. Horseback riding with Donegal Equestrian Centre. St. Patrick’s Well, Catsby Cave, Belleek Pottery and Campview Farm. A big thank you to faculty of MCC and FT and all the fabulous students.
