Transatlantic Connections – Drew University & Birmingham Southern College Jan 4-14 2019

20th January 2019

We kicked off 2019 with a blast! On Jan 4, students from Drew University NJ and Birmingham Southern College AL boarded flights to fly to Ireland for a ten day global scholars program which included a one-day symposium in association with the University of Ulster, Letterkenny Institute of Technology and St. Angela’s College, National University of Galway. We were blessed with mild and sunny weather, which allowed us to take full advantage of the glorious visits to Lough Crew Passage Graves, Donegal Castle, Yeats Country and Ballyshannon. Our good friends Tom Kelly and Kevin Hasson kindly met the students when they visited their Bogside Murals in Derry City. Evenings were fun, with lots of local musicians and artists coming in to keep us all busy, and yes, we went for a surf and a horseride along the beach.

The symposium was terrific, with a very high standard of presentations for the undergraduate students. The winners of ‘best student presentations’ – Heather DuPont of Drew University, Alexis Nail of Birmingham-Southern College and Stephanie Tobia of MFA in Poetry @Drew University We celebrated the final evening with a Gala at the Peak restaurant.
