DREW GLOBAL SCHOLARS REUNION 2019

25th October 2019

On October 21st, we reunited our summer global scholars on the beautiful campus of Drew University. Unfortunately, because of school commitments and location, not everyone could attend this reunion, and our thoughts were with our absent friends from summer 2019. However, there were shrieks of joy upon arrival for many, and it was wonderful to meet the Moms and Dads who had also been part of this wonderful program. We were delighted to welcome back Aurelia, Abby, Teika, Neika, Celine, Geri, Cameron, Tiffaney, Conor, James, Sage and Eden, and their parents, family, friends and teachers.

We began the reunion in Mead Hall, with an address from  Mr. Robert Herr, Vice president for Enrollment Management and Dean of College Admissions. He welcomed the students and their families to Drew University, and spoke of his great pleasure that the summer program has been so successful. He introduced the students to three student guides, who brought everyone on a tour of the campus, which was especially beautiful on this sunny afternoon.

After the campus tour, our students and families reassembled in Mead Hall for some refreshments. Marybeth Tamburro, Senior Associate Director of College Admissions addressed the assembly, and explained all of the advantages of an education at Drew to the students. Marybeth was followed by Dr. Niamh Hamill, director of the Global Scholars Program, who congratulated the students on their achievement, and invited two of the participants, Eden Summerlin and Teika Brown, to come to the podium and share some of their experiences with the audience. Both girls gave an articulate and emotional summary of their experience, and were fantastic ambassadors for this program.

We then had the pleasure of introducing Mr. Sean O’hAodha, Deputy Consul General of Ireland, to the group. Mr. O’hAodha praised Drew University on its association with Ireland, through the Global Scholars program, and the Shortrec Transatlantic Connections program. He emphasized the commitment of the Irish government to engaging with the diaspora abroad through education and culture, and congratulated the students on their achievement.

The evening was hosted by the wonderful Sunita Barghava, who does amazing work to provide this excellent program for young high school seniors, and many thanks to Sunita for all her hard work. Thanks also to Drew Photographer Lynne DeLade, who provided these lovely pics below!
