First time to visit Ireland, we were delighted to welcome Sarah, Caroline and their students from Northwestern Michigan College. Sarah, who came to us on a faculty site visit in 2017, returned with a wonderful group of students who got the best of Irish Spring weather as well as loads of fantastic site visits. Faculty member Caroline Schaefer-Hills had some students specializing in film and design, and just for them, we added on an extra visit to the Star Wars film location of ‘The Last Jedi‘ -(as well as all of our usual historical & cultural trips). We worked with Starwars guide Bren Whelan, who not only took us to see the sites, and supplied us with anecdotes about the filming, but also had a piece of the Millenium Falcon, which made Nick’s day!
The program also included a civil rights & social justice module, much enhanced by our visits to Doagh Famine Museum, the Ulster American Folk Park, the Museum of Free Derry and The Bogside Artists’ Mural Gallery. And as it was Easter, we celebrated with a good old singsong in the Atlantic before this too-short but awesome trip finished.
