Aloha!
Collaborative programs are not just great fun to do, but allow students from different states, different schools and different fields of study to share their experiences and make lifelong friends. We just finished a wonderful collaborative program with business students from Fox Valley Technical College WI, and Hawaii Community College Hilo, who were studying ecology and culture. First of all, everyone got along so well! Our groups did lots of things together, including a trip to historic Devenish Island on Lough Erne, a service project working in an Irish Bog, and of course, the usual highlights of surfing, horseriding and adventure activities. Our FVTC business students also visited several Irish businesses, from Derry to Sligo to Fermanagh, and enjoyed guest speakers on border business, the tourism economy and the implications of Brexit. Our geography & culture Hawaiians explored the marine ecosystems of the Wild Atlantic Way & investigated Queen Maeve’s cairn on top of Knocknarea mountain, the Cavan Burren, and much more.
The weather obliged and provided delightful sunshine every day, and a fantastic time was had by all! Thanks to the great faculty leaders from Fox Valley Technical College and Hawaii CC, and of course, to Aaron Gorenc and Mela Scheffler, who make the magic happen each year
