ISAI's professional development program exceeded my expectations! Dr. Niamh is a masterful educator, who uses storytelling to connect participants to the history, geography, politics, and culture of Ireland. The program's focus on the needs of community colleges of the US in internationalizing education and drawing students out into the world is exactly what our group was looking for. ISAI is uniquely positioned to work with community colleges and make Ireland absolutely relevant to any course of study. My wheels are spinning about how to sponsor a group of teachers/admins to attend a week-long event at ISAI. My experience was so meaningful that I want the same thing for my teaching faculty and administrators. The presentations were so thoughtfully prepared and shared with our group prior to each field trip that I felt the history “come alive” once we arrived on site. This was a great taste of what our students will experience. I was amazed at how much I learned! It was fun to be a student, and this professional development just reinforced how impactful experiential learning is. I know I learned more about Ireland, its history, its struggle for civil rights, and its economy in this short time than I would have from reading dozens of textbooks. The study abroad program at our community college started entirely from scratch, and we knew we would need strong support to bring it to life. I met with numerous providers to ensure we made the right choice, and what ISAI offers simply doesn’t exist anywhere else. From the very beginning, Niamh and John were endlessly patient. Having an administrator from Student Affairs join us on the trip also created a true champion for the program, sparking excitement and support throughout the college.
