And everyone is sound!
We began our program with classes on Mythology and Folklore, and we visited the incredibly beautiful and atmospheric Cavan Burren. Day two was all about the Plantation of Ulster and Colonization – then we went for a delicious visit to Belleek Pottery – delicious for the pottery, delicious for the scones, cream and rasberry jam! And then on to Donegal Tour for a tour of Donegal Castle and @Donegal Abbey, a visit to Magee of Donegal, The Four Masters Bookshop and lots of other interesting places in the town. Great day y’all!
We were delighted to host two productions by the Dark Daughter Theatre Group, who performed for our U.S. students here in the Atlantic- our sincere thanks and congratulations to Maura Logue and her players for a great evening of entertainment. The plays were ‘The Housekeeper’ written and performed by Maura Logue, It is fantastic to see local theatre performed in Bundoran, and we are delighted to support Maura and her actors. Part of the program includes having the ‘craic’ and we have had plenty of that, in our Fifty One Main Street Pub, and our alternative go-to, the great Georges Bar on Main Street – thank you Linda for your great hospitality, and thanks Gerry for the mad Karaoke! Next day, we visited one of the most beautiful places in Ireland, right here in Donegal, the Sliabh Liag cliffs are always a must-do on our trips. We visited with our college groups – but we had one very special visitor – Nancy came here four years ago, and loved it, but did not have enough time to climb to the highest point- back this year and she was off like a bullet, and she made it!
We love to introduce our groups to the very best of food while they are here in Donegal – so off we went to Anderson’s Boathouse restaurant in Killybegs, famous for its delicious seafood. Our students were treated to out-of-the-sea fresh Hake, farm fresh veggies, and a dessert of Pavlova or Profiteroles with fresh fruit and cream. Thanks Garry and staff for a fabulous evening
Our wonderful gang from Forsyth Technical College visited the Tattie Hoaker organic farm and the team there, led by Aga, gave them a fantastic experience- a tour of this busy working farm, a chance to do some planting, foraging, hen-management (??) and then they made a delicious meal from the freshest of produce. These faces say it all!
Speaking of happy faces, look at us on Arranmore Island!
The joint program of Forsyth Tech and Nebraska Community Colleges was one of the highlights of summer 2022, can’t wait until y’all return!
